The death of a parole officer opens up some hushed and harbored secrets. Meanwhile, Grace and her brother Johnny search for the Earl-connected drug addict, Neely. Also, Rhetta decides to make some personal changes after having problems at home.

The bizarre murder of a drug company whistle blower becomes a potential national news story for Butch’s reporter girlfriend, Kendra Burke. Grace’s brother Leo is convinced his next door neighbor is keeping a dead body in his house. And Johnny pressures Grace to arrange a chance for him to finally meet Earl.

The crew investigates the shooting death of a 99 year old man, possibly mimicking a crime which was committed years earlier in Tulsa. Meanwhile, Bobby wants to make a connection with his father; and Grace walks upon Rhetta's husband in a compromising situation.

Grace and Rhetta have the exact same dream where Grace is shot during a gas station robbery, and they set about exploring the dream's real world setting, a local gas station, for clues. As they search, they have a face-to-face encounter with a girl from the dream. Meanwhile, Leon's execution date is upon him, and Earl draws near to give him strength. Later, as Grace views an old family video, she discovers to her shock that Leon was friends with her late sister Mary Frances. Grace begins to understand why God brought her and Leon together, and gains a strong desire to save him from his fate. She makes repeated calls to the governor, and finally stops his motorcade in order to plead Leon's case. Father Johnny, Rhetta, and finally Grace all go to Leon's side in the hours before his execution. Meanwhile, the squad is called when a home intruder is shot dead by a gun-toting grandma, but the case may not be as open and shut as it seems. Also, Ham gets the word that his divorce has been finalized.

Holly Hunter makes her television debut as Grace Hanadarko, an Oklahoma City police detective. But despite her career and drive to find justice for those who can't find their own, Grace has taken self-destruction to a new level after facing personal and professional tragedy. When Grace meets an angel with a similar path, she is helped back to the right path.

Episode S02E13 - So Whats The Purpose of a Platypus:
Doug and Maggie's romance has flourished so much that they set their wedding date, but the date may be put on hold when Maggie is attacked by an unknown predator. Meanwhile, Johnny and Rhetta try passionately to save Leon from his upcoming execution by starting a petition. And young Clay continues bonding with Leon's son.

Grace discovers to her consternation that Clay's father Doug is dating Maggie (Kathy Baker), a new bartender at Louie's, just as Clay worries that Doug may be looking for out-of-state employment. A girl's murder has the squad searching for answers for a grieving father, as another father in a long-unsolved case hounds Grace for resolution. Meanwhile, Leon receives a visit from an old high school classmate, causing him to soften his tough exterior. And as the Hanadarko clan tries to comes to terms with Doug's plans for marriage, Grace enlists Rhetta's help to do a little deeper digging into Maggie's background.

The adventures of a London teenager Luke Rutherford (Christian Cooke), who learns that he is the last descendant of the Van Helsing line by the sudden arrival of his American godfather Rupert Galvin (Philip Glenister). Luke is charged with the role of smiting the gathering dark forces of the world whilst trying to live an ordinary life of exams and parties. Rupert Galvin helps train Luke with the assistance of Mina Harker, a blind concert pianist and authority on half-lives (i.e. vampires, demons, zombies, and werewolves). Luke's best friend Ruby also joins in on the action.
Luke's first adversary is a dangerous vampire bounty hunter called Gladiolus Thrip. Thrip hates the Van Helsings and is determined to end the family line.

Episode 2 - Saving Grace:
The return of Galvin's wife's murderer, Mr Tibbs sets the vampire hunter on a path of vengeance. This leads to Galvin breaking into Tibbs' lair and having to be rescued from a group of half-lives. Thirst for revenge still not quenched, he and Luke find themselves walking into a trap. Ruby finds herself in a race against time to defuse a bomb placed in the Stacks by Mr. Tibbs, and with the help of Mina, must find Luke and Galvin before they succumb to a watery fate.

Dr. Cox requests Dr. Kelso's help to oust Dr. Maddox from Sacred Heart. Carla decides to take a self-centered, incompetent intern Katie (Betsy Beutler) down a notch.
