3rd episode of Bakemonogatari that centers on Koyomi Araragi, a 3rd year high school student who is almost human again after briefly becoming a vampire. One day, a classmate named Hitagi Senjōgahara, who infamously never talks to anyone, falls down the stairs into Koyomi's arms. He discovers that Hitagi weighs next to nothing, in defiance of physics. After being threatened by her, Koyomi offers his help, and introduces her to Meme Oshino, a middle-aged homeless man who helped him stop being a vampire.
The series tends to introduce only one new heroine per chapter, each involved with a different "apparition". The events of the previous chapters play an important role in the subsequent ones. The series primarily focuses on conversations between characters; it contains a fair number of parodies of other series, as well as Nisio Isin's trademark word play and metahumor.

The short stories in the two volumes of Bakemonogatari deal with a high school boy named Koyomi Araragi and strange students he encounters ("Bakemonogatari" is a wordplay on the Japanese term bakemono for supernatural creatures and the term monogatari for stories). One student, a girl named Hitagi Senjōgahara, almost literally falls into his lap, only to have him discover she has no weight.
Episode 2 (of 15) - At Hitagi Senjōgahara's home Hitagi contemplates her past as she showers, Koyomi Araragi waits for her. Earlier Hitagi was told to wash and change her clothes by Meme Osino, who arranges for all of them to meet at midnight. Back at Hitagi's home, Koyomi argues with Hitagi while she gets dressed in front of him. Later that evening they meet Osino, he explains that there are not going to attack the crab god but instead pray to it. They go before an alter, Osino instructs her to relax, he then asks her a series of questions. His final question results in Hitagi retelling about how her mother joined a cult when Hitagi was sick, and that one night her mother brought a higher up, from the cult, home. Hitagi injured him as he attempted to sexually assault her, her mother watching without aiding her. As a result her family was broken apart; Hitagi feels that she is responsible. She opens her eyes to find a crab facing her. Koyomi and Osino are unable to see the glowing yellow eyed, red word-bound form of the giant crab. When Hitagi is the attacked by crab god, Osino is forced to intervene - this allows her to beg the crab for her feeling and memories - and they are returned. In a flashback it is explained how her mother joined the cult, and how the attack on Hitagi resulted in a broken family; that she met a crab which took her feelings(weight) and memories of her mother. Hitagi now has her memories and feeling of her mother back, but she has forever lost her mother. In the morning Koyomi finds that his weight has also been increased by the crab god.

They go to see Meme Osino, who after hearing her situation explains that it was the weight crab, a god, that took her weight.

Ikkaku Madarame and Yumichika Ayasegawa travel to Karakura Town on a assignment to catch a hollow that had attacked a convoy in Soul Society. The two travel to Ichigo's house planning to stay there until their assignment is complete. Ichigo, however, turns them down and takes them to Keigo's. Keigo's sister, Mizuho is all over Ikkaku until Yumichika glues a wig to his head. Mizuho gets upset and makes life difficult for the pair. After a falling out with Mizuho, Ikkaku and Yumichika camp outside instead. While Mizuho goes with Keigo to buy some juice, she is attacked by the hollow. After some difficulty removing the wig from himself, Ikkaku gets to the scene and saves Mizuho. The next day, Ikkaku and Yumichika prepare to return home. Mizuho knows Ikkaku rescued her and both of them return to good terms.
